In 2011, we will take the full day outer banks trip. Hopefully warmer water and distance will equal some larger yellowfin tuna and Dolphin fish or Dorado. 2 boats needed for next years tournament?
2011 Tournament update: I've had a really good response to the first RFP (request for participants). As of now, we have 26 spots verbally accounted for and we are just 3 weeks into the planning for 2011 in San Diego. I will be limiting the first boat to less then 30 people, most likely 28. If the first boat is filled soon enough, I will look at reserving the Sea Adventure sport fishing's second fishing boat the Jigstrike which we took out in 2009 for a 3/4 day event. We can put up to 20 on that one. Since we are going out a couple of weeks later in the year and further out, we should have some warmer water.
You can now place your deposit for the event online by going to our event registration page.

Day 2 – game, set and match goes to the ocean this year
Well, the effort and optimism was there in the early AM. We headed out, ran for a couple of hours however, the ocean was not giving in. Once we climbed the perfect storm wave, it was time to turn around. Tuna is a challenging catch, but in 10 foot swells and no forgiveness in sight, the group opted to turn back. A day of trolling in these conditions is not much fun. Pacific Ocean 1 – Best Fishing Places – 0. With our hopes dashed for this year, we will look forward to San Diego and another chance at the Tuna. Thanks to all who "tried" to participate. Winning by default with a whopping 4.5 pound Quillback Rockfish on day 1 was Mark Smith.
Look for the 2011 3rd annual tournament trip information soon which will be held in San Diego again.
Day 1 not so Tuna
Well, the weather in Newport has not been the most cooperative. We've had nice skies and no rain, but wind, wind, wind. 15-20 knots making it difficult to get out to the Tuna today. Since most of the locals wanted Tuna, we had a limited boat for Rockfishing today. Looks like it's down to one day now for the tournament. We are scheduled to go out first thing tommorrow morning as the predictions are for better weather. Wish us luck. For now, day 1 was a warm up. Blackies, Ling Cods, a quillback rockfish and a couple of sculpin. All but one Ling cod where to small and released. The Quillback was the largest of the day weighing in at 4 and a half pounds. Here are some pictures of the days fishing. check out the full set here.
